We showed up early and easily found our reserved table, set our jackets and Wine Down glasses on the table and went directly to the bar. There was a large selection of Stony Ridge and Crooked Vine wines by the glass or bottle, sangria and beer. After a quick discussion (a la Family Feud huddle) we decided upon a bottle of the Crooked Vine Pinot and Crooked Vine Cabernet. I am a white wine fan and new to the path of red wines, but am finding that I actually do enjoy them. (Yay! My pallet is growing up!) Both wines complimented the summer evening by not being heavy or too strong on tannins.
Cabana Dave’s was serving their usual menu which consists of a tri-tip sandwich, shrimp po-boy and a chicken wrap. However, sneaky Dave is keeping me on my toes and offered a cheese and fruit plate, which is hands down the best item to pair with wine. The evening quickly flew by chatting with old friends, making new ones and singing to country tunes by the Catfish Boys. October 12th is the last Wine Down event of the season so be sure to head down and enjoy an evening under the stars before winter makes us bundle up from head to toe and run to and from the car to wine taste in the rain.
